Artist of the Week: Floating Points

Floating-PointsIn an era when David Guetta pap rules the airwaves and dance music can’t make it without involving either a) a massive drop or b) the mindless repetition of a random phrase, it is great to have an artist producing as nuanced a sound as London’s Floating Points.

The nom de turntable of Sam Shepherd, Floating Points joins the illustrious list, including Greg Gillis and Caribou’s Dan Snaith, of musicians with P.h.Ds (don’t mention Brian May. Please.)

As Jez from Peep Show brilliantly commented, I think that what’s happening is maybe two or three different musical things, at the same time!” This is what Floating Points excels at.

Floating Points plays the Factory Studios in Bristol on Saturday 6 December.
