Something for the Weekend

Donegal mix master Colpey Calling selects his new Track of the Week, as well as the Best Track You’ve Never Heard.

Track of the Week

Art Department feat. Seth Troxler – “Cruel Intentions” (2014)

Art Department’s second album is looming, and with this so is my fear it will hold the same potential the first album did but failed to deliver. ‘The Drawing Board’ (Art Department’s first album) failed to engage me as much as I wanted it to. Every song had the potential to be a great track but they seemed to stay strictly in the realm of deep house without much progression. Their new single, pulling in their friend and highly regarded artist, Seth Troxler, goes that bit further than previous tracks. I love it. It stands alone as a great track. It is eerie, deep and has these progressive high hats that engross me! It’s also very fitting for Halloween weekend, when eerie songs are at their best. I have seen Art Department DJ a few times now, they create sets that are incredibly deep, funky and have this overwhelming sense of warmth and love. This track brings all these emotions back. New album out soon on No. 19 music – I am excited!

Best Track You’ve Never Heard

Lil Louis – “Blackout” (1989)

It is Halloween! This track is incredibly simple, dark and brilliant! It is a techno master piece – the mark of Lil Louis a genius in techno and house. The deep male vocals are terrifying, reading excerpts from the bible, yet they engage me with the track. It’s an emotional track, but another classic from a house and techno legend!
