Track of the Week

Traumprinz – “Messed Up Jam” (2014)

With summer coming to an end and the final few festivals being played out over the next few weekends – this track is fitting of such a period – a slow late night jam! There is nothing complicated about this track and that’s why it works. A subtle 4/4 beat and dreamy synth pads progressively lead this track into beautiful lo-fi percussion and stabbed piano chords give this track an intoxicating sense of warmth and euphoria. A perfect track from a great EP. Traumprinz does it again! Out now on 12” available at all good record stores!

Best Track You’ve Never Heard

Chailai Chaiyata & Sawanee Patana – “Kwuan Tai Duew Luk Puen”

This track is huge! First heard it on Monday and it’s been on rewind since! It is a Thai version of Claudja Barry’s “Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes” – although the original is a great disco track, it sounds flat after hearing the Thai version. The obscure wonky vocals give it an extra bit of magic, that matched with the driving bass line bode together to create an instant disco classic! If this doesn’t get you loose and dancing, I am not sure what will. It was recently re-released as part of the compilation ‘Thai Pop spectacular 1960’s – 1980’s’ – unfortunately it’s hard to come by on vinyl or CD. Nevertheless it’s gone straight to the top of my want list!
