In the first of a quick-fire UK tour of just four shows in support of thirteenth studio album The Last Rider, acclaimed singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith performs at St. George’s this weekend. Though perpetually at fringes of commercial notoriety during a thirty year recording career, Sexsmith is the consummate songwriter’s songwriter and has a host of famous admirers – his songs have received the endorsement of cover versions from songwriting luminaries including Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and Elton John. He has also collaborated with the likes of Ray Davies, Emmylou Harris and Leonard Cohen.
Released last month, The Last Rider saw the Ontario native take up the reigns as producer for the very first time and, thus, it is the first record to fully capture Sexsmith’s complete musical vision. Armed with a well-received album of new material, along with an ample back-catalogue featuring some of the best songs that some music fans may never have heard, Sexsmith’s show promises to be a memorable one. In addition, the always wonderful acoustics of St George’s is sure to make Sexsmith’s Sunday night performance even more special.
