What:The Architectural Model – Exploring scale and vision // Where: The Architecture Centre // When: Weds 21st Jan to Sun 15th March // Cost: Free
January heralds a new approach at Bristols Architecture Centre as Bristol begins its year as European Green Capital.
To support the city becoming the UK leader for sustainable energy, the Architecture Centre programme for 2015 explores how the ‘architecture’ or ‘shape’ of a sustainable city is about much more than the buildings we build.
The first display, The Architectural Model: Exploring scale and vision, tells the story of how a model can realise the ideas of an architect or master planner in the built environment. The exhibition is curated to coincide with Amalgam’s celebrations of their 30th year in the model making trade. This exhibition only showcases a fraction of the skilled work that emerges from their Bristol based workshop, yet demonstrates how integral model making is to the process of producing great buildings and places for people.
The exhibition aims to inspire the next generation of model makers through a range of interactive activities. Visitors will even be able to model ideas to fill the ‘gap site’ between the Architecture Centre and Arnolfini. There will be a creative half term family event on Saturday 21st February and a careers workshop with the centre’s Shape My City youth project.
