Something for the Weekend

Donegal mix master Colpey Calling selects his new Track of the Week, as well as the Best Track You’ve Never Heard.

Track of the Week

Ken & Ryu – ‘Made Up’ (2014)

This week it was tight between Derry artist The Cyclist’s new album and Ken & Ryu’s new EP. I have gone with Ken & Ryu as The Cyclist album (check out ‘Flourish’) has been getting a lot of publicity and rightly so. Belfast artist James McConville, AKA Ken & Ryu, has been a long term collaborator with Boxcutter, popping up on a lot of releases – but this is only his second solo release. His cosmic funk style is as good as ever – you can definitely hear Boxcutter’s influences here. A great track that is warm and groovy, with lush tickling high-hats!

Amomopondo – ‘Seng Inkomo’ (2014)

This is an excellent track from South Africa’s Amomopondo – everything about it is a great track – the vocals, the marimba, the skin drums, the high energy! A song about milking cows! I have been playing this one for a while. In recent years Amomopondo have made tracks with German house masters Ame, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz.
