In the penultimate show on their UK tour, legendary supergroup Alabama 3 bring their unique fusion of country, blues, and trip-hop to O2 Academy this Friday. After forming in Brixton in 1995, the ten-piece have released twelve studio albums, garnering acclaim from their loyal fanbase and critics alike. Famously, their notoriety extends beyond musical circles. After changing names (originally The First Presleyterian Church of Elvis the Divine) and signing with One Little Indian Records in 1997, they landed the opening credits of The Sopranos with their track “Woke Up This Morning”.
Bandleaders ‘Larry Love’ (Rob Spragg), ‘The Spirit’ (Orlando Harrison), and ‘The Reverend Be Atwell (Sheena Ross) are sure to turn the Academy into a celebratory acid blues party. It is their live shows, after all, that make the A3 a one-of-a-kind band. They are described by The Guardian as “the best live band in the country”, their genre-mashing studio albums translating into riotous and cathartic live performances. The band’s Bristol show is one of only a small handful of UK dates on this current tour, and it is not to be missed.
