Tickets

OK, here it is. Sorry to all those who didn’t get tickets – there is a massive, colossal festival taking place this week, a festival which will likely be the highlight of the summer for those lucky enough to attend.

With most strummers and hummers heading down to Somerset for the festivities, Bristol becomes, to bastardise John Donne, an island cast away from the continent, clod washed away by the sea. Live music becomes a rarity.

There is, however a chink of light. For those with tickets for the former Pilton Pop Festival, The Ramona flowers are playing a free warm-up gig at The Fleece in order to get their guitars in tune. For those without tickets, the gig is a chance to get a glimpse of what they’ll be missing over the weekend.

As well as having a crafty name taken from a character in the Scott Pilgrim comic book series, The Ramona Flowers have been heavily tipped by NME, The Guardian and BBC 6 Music, and should put on a good show. Their sound is somewhat akin to a more crunchy Wild Beasts, and, as their video for ‘Tokyo’ suggests, they are not afraid of putting together incredibly creepy films.
