Theaster-Gates-Sanctum-temple-church-bristol-conde-nast-traveller-29oct15-Max-McClure_4_1080x720This autumn, a remarkable structure has risen from within the bombed out remains of Temple Church in Bristol. For 24 days, this 14th century site is transformed into an intimate gathering place in which to hear the city like never before.

Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates was invited by Bristol arts producer, Situations, to create his first public project in the UK as part of Bristol 2015 European Green Capital.

The artist sought out discarded and dormant materials from former places of labour and religious devotion across Bristol to build an intimate and distinctive temporary structure at Temple Church. Until 6pm on Saturday 21st November, Sanctum will host a continuous programme of sound over 552 hours, sustained by performers, musicians and bands, spoken word artists and the visiting casts of theatre productions in Bristol.

You will be able to enter Sanctum day and night, but the schedule will always remain secret. You won’t know who you are about to hear. Capacity is limited, but if you’d like to guarantee a time to visit, you can reserve an entry time here. See Sanctum unfold on the Story Page

Claire has been away. A lot. When tragedy hits The Island, she’s called back home to sort out the mess. As the elected Member of Parliament it’s kind of her job. Dropped into a maelstrom of unpredictable characters and Island life she must navigate her way through it, or end up being swallowed by the seas that are quickly creeping their way up The Island’s shores.

Islanders is a play about politics and principles, where we come from and where we want to be. Islanders is part of Theatre West’s season of new writing and will be preceded by a short play Week one Barred by Hugh McCann, & Week two Theatre by Richard Bradbury.
